Chapter 10
“Well I called you here because you are looking at the newest intern of Sony Music Entertainment!” And before she could say anything else they were all embracing her in a very strong hug. She told them to sit down and then started to explain everything she would be doing but Matthew was rather confused and suddenly stopped her “I’m sorry, but I think I remember you telling me once about London? Right?” She nodded “No, I mean yeah, I wanted to do a master’s there yes, but I think I’ll be skipping that for now” and after that he told her she could continue.
Only after a long while did any of them notice Matthew’s hands “I was just training and forgot about the time, all good guys!” He reassured them.
“We should go celebrate, drink something, talk for a while?” Joe suggested and Matthew immediately went with it, but when Nate said he couldn’t he started thinking maybe he shouldn’t go as well, after all he didn’t know that well yet and it could be a bit awkward “I think I’ll go home as well, maybe another day?” But Joe wasn’t buying it “If you have nothing to do you’re coming with us! C’mon!”. Not that he was that convinced but truth be told he didn’t really have an excuse so they decided to call and cab and the three of them made their way to an Irish Pub right in the middle of the city.
“The first round’s on me” Joe said as soon as they stepped in there “For my lil sista” he mocked and pulled her close. Needless to say that each of them went on paying rounds during some time and soon after Matthew didn’t think it was being awkward anymore and was just enjoying their company.
“So you guys moved here this summer?” The blue-eyed asked when the conversation was starting to die. “Yes, we’re from LA” the boy answered “Beach and palm trees, way prettier that NYC if you ask me” the girl added in a mocking tone. “Our father has a new job so we had to move, but it’s okay”.
Joe was nearly always comfortable around people and Matthew was no exception yet he wasn’t really sure if he should or not ask anything about his family but eventually he did “You really don’t have to answer man and please don’t get me wrong” Matt being his impatient self had to interrupt him “Spill it out” he laughed “I know you don’t have your dad anymore, and I’m really sorry, but where’s your mother?”
“Ah it’s okay!” He reassured before actually answering him “I really don’t know anyway, she left when I was about two or something, it doesn’t even bother me honestly because I have no memories of her. She showed up a few years ago but we never really connected so yeah, she’s called Mia and I think she lives in North Carolina or whatever.”
“And you started boxing young or what?” The emerald-eyed girl asked “My dad was a really good friend of Bossy and I grew up in that club and with the both of them so eventually I grew fond of the sport. I used to play basketball but my passion for boxe and martial arts was bigger so I quit it and started to dedicate myself only to the club.” Nate interrupted him “There was a time where it wasn’t even healthy, it was impossible to set eyes on him” Matthew nodded and went on “It’s true, it became an obsession for a while. But now it’s just my escape, I mean it’s also my way of making money to be honest, but yeah life’s been though though lately and it’s kinda a shelter, but I think that’s enough of me” he laughed. “And you, any of you plays sports or are y’all like Nate?” They all mocked Nate for a bit and Stella spoke for her brother “Joe used to play ice hockey and it was my father’s joy, I’m a bit of a lone wolf so anything that doesn’t involve more people is fine” Joe then interrupted her to tell the boys she was also great at martial arts. “I had a few lessons” she blushed and mockingly punched her brother’s arm “Oh stop it Stella, you killed it, almost literally” they laughed “Well you have to stop by the gym sometime soon then!” Matthew said excited “I’m serious” he said after realising she wasn’t taking his word very seriously.
And with that the conversation went on until the lady approached them to warn that the place would be closing in 10. “Today’s on me, you’ll pay another day, end of discussion” Joe said before he went inside to pay.
